Logo Design & Visual Language
A Logo Is Not a Decoration. It Is the Anchor of a Visual System That Has to Work at Every Size, in Every Context, and for at Least a Decade.
- Logo design and development: Designing the primary logo mark - wordmark, symbol, or combination mark as appropriate to the brand context - through a rigorous process of concept development, strategic alignment, and refinement, with full consideration of how the logo performs across all required applications: digital, print, small-scale, large-scale, reversed, and single-colour
- Logo variant system: Developing the complete family of logo variants - primary, secondary, simplified, reversed, monochrome, and any application-specific variants - that allow the logo to be applied correctly across every context without compromising the mark's integrity
- Colour system design: Developing the brand colour architecture - primary palette, secondary palette, functional colours, and the proportional usage rules that govern how colours are combined - with attention to digital accessibility, print reproduction accuracy, and the emotional and sector-appropriate associations the palette needs to carry
- Typography system: Selecting and specifying the brand typography - primary typeface, secondary typeface, and the typographic hierarchy that governs headings, subheadings, body text, and captions - with alternatives specified for contexts where primary typefaces are not available, such as presentations and documents
- Iconography and graphic language: Designing the brand's iconography system - the icon style, the graphic elements, the illustration style where relevant, and the visual language that distinguishes the brand's graphic communication from generic design
- Photography and image direction: Defining the photographic style that governs how the brand appears visually through imagery - subject matter, composition approach, colour treatment, lighting character, and the specific visual qualities that distinguish on-brand photography from generic stock
