Growth isn’t just increasing turnover; it’s improving your economics as you grow. Your CFO likes this statement

Want to know whether your growth is really working? Ask three questions.

1. What does it cost us to win a customer?

2. What is that customer worth to us over time?

3. How quickly do we recover that investment?

These are simple questions. But they change the conversation between.

Because growth is not just about more leads. It is about better economics.

Six numbers every sales & marketing leader should know:

  • 1. CAC: Customer Acquisition Cost: What is the actual cost of acquiring a customer? Not just advertising. Marketing. Sales. People. Technology. Put the real number together.
  • 2. LTV: Customer Lifetime Value: What is one customer worth over the entire relationship? The first order is just the tip of the iceberg. Your compounding effect & relationship is the asset.
  • 3. Payback: Time to recover CAC: How long before that customer pays back what you invested? The faster you recover it, the faster you can reinvest.
  • 4. Revenue per Customer: Are we growing by adding customers? Or by creating more value from the ones we already have?
  • 5. Cost per Lead: What does it cost to create one opportunity? A cheap lead is not a good lead. The real test is what happens after it.
  • 6. LTV: CAC Ratio: For every ₹1 you spend to win a customer, how much value do you get back? This is where the larger picture comes in.

Put these six in one single page. Same numbers. Same dashboard. Same truth.

The Functional Breakdown:

  • Marketing : generates demand.
  • Sales: converts that demand.
  • Technology : enables scalability.
  • Data : provides visibility.

But it is unit economics that determines whether any of these efforts create actual value.

The Crucial Distinction?

Being busy is not the same as building a business.

Growth isn’t just about increasing turnover; it’s about improving your economics as you grow.
